Timelines are the backbone of the wedding - we value the time it takes to create these intricate masterpieces; the value in being on time. We also know that you are not a photographer (and that is totally ok! That is our job). Here is our take on perfect timelines; ones that allow us to keep our clients stress free, capture the shots we need, plan for the inevitable delay & keep everything on time & running smoothly We know we carry a great responsibility getting our clients from photos to timed events - this allows us to share with you what tends to work best for us!
This is the most important part of the day to get right, because everything else is reverse-engineered from here. Our favourite way to determine the ceremony time is to find the exact time the sun is going to set, at your venue’s location!
I start by googling “sunset time in [city, state] on [wedding date.] You can even add the venue name in your google search for the sunset time as well!
For example: Sunset time at Nita Lake Lodge in Whistler, BC, on June 3, 2024.
The next thing I do is pull up Google Earth Pro to verify the sunset. I enter the location, and then use the sunset feature to see exactly how the light is falling at that specific location, on that exact date.
Sometimes, you'll find that the actual area you're having the wedding at gets darker than when it says the "sunset time" is. (If the venue is secluded in woods, or surrounded by mountains. In that case, you'll want to use the time the area becomes SHADED as your sunset time, even if it’s not the “actual” sunset time. This ensures you'll have adequate light for the rest of the day!
Once I find that time, I count back between 3-3.5 hours and place the ceremony there. So if the area becomes shaded at 7pm, I'd set the ceremony for 3pm!
The hardest part of the timeline and often the most overlooked, is the getting ready and first - look, if any. During this time there is often hair, makeup, vendor arrivals, couple 1 getting ready, couple 2 getting ready, guests arriving etc.
We find that timekeeping is the most important at these moments. Here are a couple things we need to consider in this time:
How far is the getting ready from the venue, and what is the accessibility and parking situation? Does the brides dress require extra time to move around (sewing it up, or making sure it is in place), does she have a veil? These things add just minutes, but it can certainly add up.
The size of bridal party is important in timekeeping, as well as their list of photos wanted. When in doubt, we always like to leave extra room prior to leaving the getting ready locations for the least amount of stress!
See who is available on the requested date. There is a chance to request a specific photographers' availability, or all of them!
You, or your client can book a call with our team to discuss which photographer is right for them, and to learn more about how we work.
Once we've confirmed your date and you're ready to book, we will send you a link to the appropriate proposal, a custom proposal, or you can use the ones linked above!
