Lifestyle portraits are so important to me.
Having lost my Mom at a young age, I appreciate that life isn’t guaranteed, and I’m so incredibly grateful for the photos that have allowed me to know my Mom and remember her throughout my lifetime. Because of this, I’m the friend who urges other friends to document every event, to take photos of occasions and ordinary days, photos of their friends and families, photos of themselves with their friends and families. Ditch the weight loss, embrace the braces, invite everyone!
This advice became even more real to me when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. In an instant, my life was turned upside down, and even though I really didn’t feel like it, I had the photos taken anyway, on good days and bad, from the shock of chemo and radiation to acceptance, recovery and two years cancer-free.
I hope you have the photos taken too. Days, weeks, even years from now you will see yourself and the people you love as more beautiful, more real and more brave than you ever remembered, and that’s a pretty incredible feeling.
